Phoenix Festival and Equine Education Fair

May 17, 2025 - William Wells Brown Elementary School and Community Center - 11 am-2 pm

The Phoenix Festival celebrates the history of the Kentucky Association race track (1828-1933) that was located on school grounds. The Festival involves youth playing the roles of the famous Black jockeys who worked at the historic track. The young “jockeys” are dressed in the silks of Kentucky Derby winners. They parade as a group to the stage, then one-by-one they present a very brief “bio” of their career. Amplify will be on site to educate youth and adults on careers in horse racing.
